Expected delivery of s-300 to Iran is not prohibited by the UN security Council, but may be subject to U.S. sanctions, said the head of the press service of the state Department John Kirby.
"The transfer to Iran of these defensive weapons systems are not prohibited by the resolutions of the UN Security Council, but we will check, does it violate U.S. sanctions laws against Iran," said Kirby.

He also noted that the U.S. position on this issue has not changed and Secretary of state John Kerry has repeatedly talked about this to the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, reports TASS
"We remain concerned about Russia's intention to supply missile systems to Iran, said the state Department spokesman. – We are against the sale to Iran of s-300".
Kirby explained the concern of the foreign policy of the Iranian government and the support it provides to a number of groups in the middle East, ranked by the United States to the category of terrorist.
"These missile systems surface-to-air can be supplied to the regime, which continues its malicious actions in support of terrorism in the region", said the American diplomat.
According to him, the United States fear that these defensive systems "can be used for other purposes or to be in the hands of other people."
At the same time, Kirby expressed the hope that Russia's plans to supply s-300 will not prevent the implementation of the agreement on Iran's nuclear program, signed by the five permanent members of the UN security Council and Germany.
According to him, the nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic and the concern over s-300 "is not linked". The state Department spokesman noted that the United States relies on compliance by all parties with their obligations under this agreement.
On Tuesday, Iranian defense Minister Hossein Dehghan stated that the contract for the supply of his country s-300 can be agreed and signed within this or next week.
On 30 July it was reported that Russia would sell Iran modernized s-300, which is currently being developed specifically for Iranian customers.
